Everything You Need to Know

Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences (ABVIMS) is a government medical college in New Delhi, attached to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, one of Delhi’s largest central government hospitals. It’s affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) and recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

Although the institute’s parent hospital dates back earlier, ABVIMS was formally established in 2019, with the first MBBS batch admitted that year, marking it as one of the newer premier medical colleges in Delhi.

ABVIMS offers a 5½-year MBBS program (100 seats) filled through NEET-UG and MCC counselling. Additionally, the institute offers B.Sc. Nursing (?50 seats), MD/MS postgraduate courses, super-specialty DM/M.Ch programs, and even diplomas in various medical fields.

Admission to MBBS at ABVIMS is highly competitive due to its location and hospital exposure. Closing ranks in recent counselling rounds suggest strong NEET-UG score requirements for general and reserved categories under All India Quota and university/state quota.

The MBBS fee at ABVIMS is significantly lower than many private colleges (approx ?1.8–2.3 L total course fee over 5½ years, with first-year tuition being around ?53,000), though additional deposits and hostel/mess charges may apply depending on policy.

Students train at Dr. RML Hospital, a large multi-specialty government hospital in central Delhi, which provides extensive clinical exposure in emergency, medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics & gynecology, and several super-specialty departments — a major strength for practical learning.
