It is founded in 1930 as the Tula Mechanical Institute in Tula, Tula Oblast, Russia. By the decision of the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Science, Higher Education, and Technical Policy, it was renamed Tula State Technical University in 1992. Finally, by decree of the Russian Federation’s State Committee for Higher Education, Tula State Technical University was renamed Tula State University in 1995.
